The standards we hold ourselves to
The Roofers Guide vets every roofer we list, and we keep that vetting separate from who pays us. The difference is what we’re willing to commit to in writing about how we work. This page is that commitment.
Fact-checking
Every factual claim about a contractor on The Roofers Guide is sourced and dated in our research record. We use issuing boards for licenses and registrations, manufacturer directories for listed credentials, established review platforms for public reputation, and county or city records where they are available. Information published only by the contractor is attributed to the contractor rather than presented as an independent confirmation.
When a claim cannot be supported, we leave it out of the customer-facing profile. We do not extrapolate, fill gaps, or display unfinished research as if it were useful homeowner guidance.
Source verification
- Licensing and registration: checked with the issuing government agency when the state or locality requires it. Where no roofing license exists, we say that plainly and do not treat a company’s “licensed” claim as a state credential.
- Insurance: described as a company-published claim unless current coverage has been independently confirmed. Homeowners should receive a current certificate for their project before work begins.
- Business presence: checked across the company’s owned website, public business records, maps, and established third-party profiles.
- Manufacturer certifications: verified through the manufacturer’s certified-installer database. We distinguish between marketing-tier credentials (“authorized installer”) and top-tier credentials (Master Elite, Platinum Preferred, Pro Gold, SELECT ShingleMaster).
- Public records: verified through state court systems, the county recorder, and PACER for federal matters.
- Storm history: NOAA Storm Events Database, NWS event records, interactivehailmaps.com, and local newspaper archives. Each event we cite has a date and a verifiable source.
Corrections policy
If anything on The Roofers Guide is factually incorrect, we want to know. Email hello@theroofersguide.com with the URL, the specific claim, and any documentation. We respond to corrections requests within seven days.
When a substantive correction is made, the article’s “Last updated” date is refreshed and a brief note describing the nature of the correction appears at the bottom of the article. Trivial fixes (typos, formatting, dead links) are made silently. We never silently edit substantive claims or editorial findings.
If a featured contractor disputes a published claim and we cannot reach agreement, we publish their position alongside ours, named and dated.
Editorial independence
Contractor participation is not required for editorial coverage. A contractor may receive a private preview, but only to identify factual errors. They cannot remove supported findings, soften the language, or influence inclusion or ranking. The same corrections process remains available after publication.
Editorial inclusion and ranking are decided before any money is on the table. Becoming a Featured Partner buys a clearly labeled spotlight, never inclusion, a softer write-up, or a higher place on the list. We never adjust a finding based on whether a roofer pays us. Every paid relationship that exists on The Roofers Guide(Featured Partner, lead-referral, and CRM-referral) is described in detail on the disclosure page.
Conflict of interest handling
Roofing Force is operated by a member of the founder’s immediate family. The Roofers Guide earns no money from Roofing Force. They do not pay us for leads, for inclusion, or for any other service.
- The relationship is disclosed prominently on every article in which Roofing Force appears.
- Roofing Force is evaluated against the same independent editorial screen as every other contractor.
- Any article featuring Roofing Force requires explicit editorial sign-off before publication, re-ranking, or a material listing change.
- Roofing Force is excluded from paid placement and from any lead-referral revenue The Roofers Guide earns.
See the full disclosure for additional detail.
Anonymous sources
We do not rely on anonymous sources to establish a contractor’s license, registration, business identity, review record, or manufacturer credential. Those claims must trace to a named public source. Off-the-record context is not published as fact unless it can be corroborated independently. We do not make anonymous accusations.
What we cannot verify
Our framework is a screen, not a guarantee. The following are out of scope for our research, and a homeowner should treat them as their own due diligence:
- The quality of any specific job once it is in progress.
- Whether a long-term workmanship warranty will be honored 10 years from now.
- The character of the specific crew that arrives at a homeowner’s house.
- Whether the homeowner’s specific situation maps cleanly to a contractor’s typical job.
- The actuarial value of any given warranty.
